The West Midlands is located in the heart of England and has a population of 4 million people, living in 1.7 million homes. Its prime location and good transport links makes it a perfect place to live, work, travel and shop.
90% of workers in the West Midlands live and work within the West Midlands Economy, a much higher proportion than in each of the three LEP areas and higher too than Greater Manchester, Sheffield and Liverpool.
The area brings together urban and rural areas, plus many tourist attractions; whilst also being a retail hotspot.
The West Midlands is also an increasingly popular place for businesses and is one of the top performing areas for Foreign and Direct Investment (FDI) in the UK. This is further reflected in the region’s economy which is worth £80bn of GVA, with growth running at 4% for 2012-13, making it one of the fastest in the UK. We are also home to some of the biggest and most strategically important businesses including JLR, Cadbury, Bosch and JCB.
